Removing Credit Report Errors

If you see an error on your report, chances are it will be in all three credit bureaus' files. You will need to contact all three bureaus; Equifax, Trans Union, Experian and you will need to have a copy of all three reports or a 3 in 1 credit report, to give them the account numbers from the report.

Write to them and include your name, social security, the account number/name in question which appears on the credit report itself, and tell them you are disputing the item. Some bureaus allow you to start the dispute online or over the phone.

They have 30 days to verify the information, request more information or remove it.

If it comes back verified and you still feel you are not responsible, you will need to take it up with the creditor and/or the credit collection agency.
